Purpose
The Process Plant Instrument Technician will work as part of a team that safety performs repairs, maintenance and troubleshoot problems for all process measurement, control instruments, analyzers, gas detectors, nucleonic density instruments and fire detection/alarm systems to ensure continuous operation all at the Newmont Merian gold processing plant.
The role will involve performing preventative and corrective maintenance tasks, identifying areas of improvement to minimize down time and ensure compliance with site electrical standards.
Essential Duties
- Participate in safety meetings and encourage a safe work culture by making safety the top priority in each job performed.
- Perform work using hand/power tools, test equipment, calibrators and other instruments typical to electrical maintenance tasks.
- Carry out preventative maintenance tasks as per developed work instructions to ensure safe and reliable operation of process measurement and control instrumentation
- Carry out calibrations and maintain records for pressure/flow/temperature/level instruments, analytical instruments such as Conductivity, ORP & PH) & belt weigher systems
- Perform isolations of radiation sources and maintain/calibrate density measurement equipment.
- Perform troubleshooting and repair faulty equipment.
- Install and commissioning new instrumentation and control loops.
- Monitor field conditions in work areas and advise supervisor where maintenance or other attention is required.
Training & Experience
- High School, Secondary School (MULO/HAVO/VWO/LBO), Plus a technical diploma (NATIN/AMTO/IMEAO, trades, or special studies certification
- Minimum of 2 years working in the electrical industry preferred for Grade 4.
- Experience in mining, utilities or other heavy industry is highly regarded.
- Ability to read and write in Dutch and English at a good standard
- Ability to read, understand and complete field forms (i.e. inspections, JHA, daily reports).
- Basic computer skills including the ability to use MS Excel and Word.
- A strong commitment to work safety.
- Strong work ethic.
- Ability to learn increasingly complex tasks, systems and processes and a continuous desire to learn and develop further
- Ability to formulate a structured, logical approach to maintenance activities and problem solving.
- Basic mechanical understanding and the ability to use hand & power tools.
- Understanding of electrical theory principles.
- Ability to use electrical measurement instruments.
- Report to supervisor if field parameters are outside normal range or trend
Working Conditions
Must be capable of and willing to work for extended periods outdoors in a tropical climate.
Wear all personal protective equipment including steel toe shoes, long sleeved shirts, or any other equipment to perform duties safely as required by the Health and Safety plan.
Capable and willing to work up to 14 x 10-hour days in a remote mine-site camp location followed by 7 days off on a rotational basis
Capable and willing to work overtime and varied schedules when required ensuring reliable operation of Process Plants.
Capable to meet the physical demands of the job including stairs, lifting, pulling, entry into confined spaces and working at heights.
Willing to attend training and participated in skills development programs to improve knowledge and understanding o
